Research and Development Tax Credits
Research & Development (R&D) tax credits are an extremely valuable yet underused relief. The credits are available to companies who work in scientific or technological sectors creating new or improved products, processes and services.
To qualify companies need to spend at least £10,000 on research and development and have a degree of novelty or innovation in what they are developing.
The March 2011 budget has made this relief even more attractive, particularly in terms of the rate of relief which is set to increase to a staggering 225% by April 2012, and the £10,000 minimum is also set to be abolished at the same time.
Bishop Fleming Rabjohns offer an appraisal and R&D claims service on a pure success fee arrangement - if there is no claim, or a claim fails, you pay us nothing. There is no charge for an initial meeting to discuss whether a claim may be appropriate.
However, given that Bishop Fleming Rabjohns has a 100% success rate in claims submitted, we consider the possibility of a claim failing to be remote. We have made many successful claims ranging from £5,000 to £500,000.

"Shortly after we engaged Bishop Fleming Rabjohns as our accountants and tax advisers, it was pointed out to us that we could claim significant R&D tax relief on our development of satellite based remote monitoring and control systems undertaken since late 2006. With only 3 weeks before the first year became time barred we were provided with clear guidance on how to set out the descriptions of our innovative work and on which costs to collate. Three months later, claims for three years had been submitted and accepted by the government, saving Corporation Tax in excess of £32,000. Best of all, Bishop Fleming Rabjohns made the whole process as painless as possible and charged a very reasonable fee."

"Although we use many traditional coach building methods in our car design with ash frames and other traditional features, Morgan has also employed cutting edge technology in terms of lightweight chassis design and body panel forming, as well as innovative propulsion design and many more advanced technologies. Bishop Fleming Rabjohns helped us to identify the innovative elements of our car design, and their expert guidance has led to successful claims on both our internal and external costs, which have been worth in excess of £400,000 to the company."

"Primasil Silicones develops bespoke silicone compounds and products for a large variety of different industries. Bishop Fleming Rabjohns were able to identify that there was continuous innovation in the development of new compounds with varying properties dependant on the intended use, and during our four year involvement with them, have prepared claims for the last ten years. These claims have been worth over £125,000 to the company to date, which has helped us to continue to invest in further advancing our technologies."
